  3. There is a lot of drama on Peppi on her first day of school when she trips and drops all of her stuff and the nerd helped her an she did not want to get into drama so she pushed him away and then she felt bad. We also figured out that the art Club not get a table at the fair this year because they think that the art club doesn't do anything and the science club does more, but what I have learned the science club does not do anything but fun.So that is were we are now. I really like this book so far.

  7. GOOD MORNING! I'm writing this BLOG on Saturday morning (so sorry) because I fell short on time with leaving for Tanner's baseball tournament. I am in Iowa now and just about to have breakfast so i thought I would check in before having some coffee cake : ) I have to tell you, this is my first time really reading a comic book. It took a little getting used to when the story began, but I like how the author developed the characters so quickly.

For this book lets chat about those characters! In each BLOG that we write, choose 3 CHARACTER ACTIONS and write about how YOU connected with those actions. We won't write 3 actions for every chapter, just for every BLOG. So on Monday, think about 3 character actions from chapters 2 AND 3, and write about those.

  8. BLOG LOG: CHAPTER 1 (Saturday Morning)

    Character - "Action" - Connection

Maribella Sampson - "We will fight against not having a table at the club fair" - I love how she doesn't put up with this. She takes action because she knows its wrong. When I feel something is wrong I stand up and figure out how to fix it too. This happened to me when I stood up to my high school coach who I thought made a wrong decision during my cross country season!

Miss Torres - "She asked Peppi for a diagram of her mermaid drawing" - I encourage students to learn more about what they love too!

Peppi - "She didn't say anything about her good idea about drawing for the school paper" - This reminded me of a teacher who I work with that doesn't like attention and doesn't speak up about her good ideas. She usually tells me about what she is thinking and then I say it aloud to our school staff...ha!

    Enjoy the characters...HAPPY READING!

  9. I read that PIPPI got tutoring by the boy that she pushed and then she went to the boys house because her mom did not come to pick her up. So she bonded with his mom and she asked if she was the girl that pushed him, and she apologized and then the third chapter ended when she said that PIPPI should apologize with the same sorry's to him.

    questions
why was PIPPI afraid of saying sorry to the boy that she pushed?

    HAPPY READING!!!😊😊😊😊😊

  10. Great question! I don't know why she is so afraid to apologize?? I can only guess that she feels so bad that she did this and it's just so embarrassing for her to admit this action. But she needs to do it!!!!!!

In chapters 2 and 3, did you connect with any character actions? That's what I wanted you to focus on in this book. Here are my character actions and connections for chapters 2 and 3.

  11. Here are my character actions and connections for chapters 2 and 3:

    1) Peppi - She said said to being a helper editor - I have trouble saying no to people and always end up helping out.

    2) Jason Nglien, from the science Center - He took them around the world with a slide show - This reminded me of when I saw the Amazon Rain Forest through a Web Program when I taught 3rd grade in Chicago Public Schools.

3)Jaime's mom - She knew Peppi pushed him and she was STILL soooo nice to her and showed Peppi all her art - my parents are also very nice and understanding to many things!

I look forward to hearing about the character actions you connect to. I'll be on again tomorrow...

I will BLOG on chapters 4 and 5 tomorrow.....That is the end of the story!!!

    Happy Reading!

  12. (SPOILER ALERT: DO NOT READ, IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED THE BOOK!!!)

Peppi bumps into Jaime at the beginning of the story. She was not sure how she would respond to his reactions when she said sorry.

Peppi had a great relationship with Maribella, but Maribella wants to steal the remote from the science club. Because Maribella's dad was an easedropper, Maribella detected that it would not be safe in her house, but better yet in Peppi's house. A day after seeing the posters about the missing remote, Peppi had a temptation to give the remote back. Then Peppi decides to put it on Jaime's doorstep because Jaime is in the science club. Then Peppi trips and Jaime hears/sees her. Peppi had to explain how she got the remote and apologize.

Jaime came to Peppi's house and said sorry for lashing out at her. Peppi invited Jaime to come to her house, so she could explain her idea, how to get the principal to change his mind about the art and science club being suspended.

Her idea was: Both clubs working together to make a planetarium for the fair to be in because in the beginning only the science club had a table at the fair. This process about working together with both groups that had difficulties getting along was challenging. The two groups and the principal agreed to Peppi's genius idea and got it done.

The planetarium worked out great. The two groups were not in trouble any more. In the end, Jaime and Peppi got forever friendships in each other. Maribella ended up moving away.

    Theme:
    "BE A GOOD FRIEND"
Example: Jaime and Peppi worked together to get the two clubs to make the planetarium. If you work together, you will accomplish your goals. Friends help each other.

Example: Peppi realized that being friends with Jaime was better than holding in her fear to say sorry. They worked on their friendship this year.

Example: Peppi was flexible when Maribella gave her the remote because she was trying to keep friendships and she was a good friend. Even though having the remote scared Peppi, she still took it, to be a good friend.

Example: Jaime's mom knew that Peppi pushed Jaime the whole time that she was at her house, but Jaime's mom was still nice to Peppi because she wanted them to learn how to forgive and keep a friendship.

Out of a scale of 1-10, I would rate this book an 8. I would have wanted more romance to increase my score, but I really liked the friendship lessons. I really like the pictures because it helps me get a better picture in my mind of the story and people's feelings. However, in other books, it is hard for me to visualize without the pictures. I would recommend this book to my best friend Claire because she's into romance and friendship. I liked this book and the previous book equally.

  13. Charlotte.....I am so impressed with your last response!! I love all of your facts and summaries from the book "Awkward" you wrote! I liked how there was a clue in the beginning with Peppi's mermaid drawing that when you combine Art and Science it really can make something special; like the Planetarium! I was also glad Peppi and Jaime became and stayed such good friends at the end. Friendship books are one of my favorite books to read! We can talk more about this on Monday over ice cream. I created a new blog for Molly's Story......copy and paste the link below! HAPPY READING!
